The auction was conducted by Birmingham auctioneer, Mr. Brian Davies. None of the first 10 lots reached the £2 mark. But then, when Lot II was shown, Mr. David Earle, a 30 year old surveyor from Henley-in-Arden, Warwicks, paid £15. 10s. after a brisk bout of bidding. Altogether the auction raised £39. 8s. 6d. for the World Wildlife Fund.» --from text on verso.
