Ejection Tie Club, 2025
Embroidered wool, engraved aluminium
Unique piece
For a fighter pilot, the ejector seat is the last resort when faced with imminent death. Ejecting from an aircraft is a rare event, and can sometimes be traumatic. Martin-Baker, the oldest British manufacturer of ejection seats, founded the Tie Club in 1929 to bring together the community of ejected pilots. Each year, during an induction ceremony, a unique tie is presented to new members, symbolising their second life after ejection and their permanent entry into the Tie Club.
The Martin-Baker Ejection Tie Club currently (2025) has 7,789 members.
The patterns on the original tie represent the number of seconds each pilot experienced during their ejection.
