MULTIPLE ART DAYS - MAD 2017
Mai 26 - 28, 2017
Paris, France

When the scientific approach of the model meets the ?artistic beauty? of an unveiled intimacy, appears a singular booth signed by the publishing house and Paris-based gallery mfc-michèle didier. Annette Messager and Paul Armand Gette.

Two major french artists gathered for the first time in the same booth by the side of The Guerrilla Girls, Mathieu Mercier, Hubert Renard and Martha Wilson on the occasion of the third MAD edition, Multiple Art Day.

Since the 1970's, Paul Armand Gette has elaborated a singular work, fed with a consistent obsession for landscapes in connection with the idea of nature and model posture. This leads to a load of images that himself considers as Cinématographies, as to say an attempt to classify a set of photographs.

The result of collecting and then archiving after any observation. Although Paul Armand Gette?s interest for natural science ? he is passionate about entomology ? has led him, as an artist, to take a scientific look at nature, what he studies and collects here are not mineralogical specimens but girls ones photographed in black and white or in color between 1970 and 1977. Cinématographies is then a photographic sampling of his discoveries.

A sampling that tends, as every sampling does, towards collection. As illustrated by Nympha Nocturna ssp. Rosea P.A.G., another artwork published by mfcmichèle didier: a sexy panties placed into an entomological display box as an example of a natural species that would have been discovered in Brussels in 1995. An Extrait du bulletin mensuel de la Société Linnéenne de Bruxelles & Paris. N°0 - 1ère Année - Mars 1995  that relates the presentation of this specimen to Paris Entomological section for its 30.03.1995 session seems to confirm the veracity of this capture however unusual. One who approaches the action of collecting inevitably ventures into collection. Once more, the object of the collection is not always what is expected. It is what the artist-collector and handywoman Annette Messager enjoys proving through more than sixty albums-collections created between 1972 and 1974.

Ma collection de champignons bons et de champignons mortels is one of these albums. It gathers on 12 plates a multiplicity of colorful mushrooms, hand drawn in a botanist way by the artist, specifying for each one if it is toxic or not. The good mushrooms and the lethal ones are mixed on a same plate, only the word ?bon?2 and ?mortel?3 signaled in red, allow to distinguish them ? very personal distinction though? Real mushroom picking manual, this album-collection, counts, categorizes, and highlights for the user-reader every species specificities.

Just like the album Mes dessins secrets that exposes, as it happens, men and female?s genitals specificities of each specimen counted by the artist. Gathering untidily 76 erotic free hand drawings by the artist on various papers from notepads and notebooks, the album Mes dessins secrets concentrates what is most personal for Annette Messager: her erotic drawings collection.

Playing of a falsely naive exhibitionism, the artist then offers to our sight the illustrated tale of her fantasies and excited sexual life. Isn?t then the collection a pointer ? It is for sure its owner?s reflection. Discreet and sometimes indecent. What is not being deny by Mathieu Mercier?s limited edition Journal that reveals, page after page, a series of photographs picturing female nudes from the artist?s personal collection. Among other artworks that are joining this singular proposition will be The Hysterical Herstory of Hysteria and How It Was Cured by The Guerrilla Girls, published in 2016 by mfc-michèle didier as part of the eponymous exhibition that took place at the gallery.

Also Kit de Montage et Revue de presse by Hubert Renard who will present on this occasion Kit de Montage - La Conférence on Saturday, May 27th, as part of MAD Multiple Art Day. Not forgetting a selection of Martha Wilson?s works that mfc-michèle didier team will be pleased to introduce.
