Ferenc Gróf

Ferenc Gróf was born in 1972 in Pécs (Hungary). Founding member of the Société Réaliste collective (2004-2014), he lives and works in Paris.

His work questions ideological and historical imprints, through works at the intersection of design, graphic design and typography. He invests different fields of research related to biology or geography as well as economy, politics or architecture.

His recent research focuses on the theme of the Anxiocene, the work of typographer Geoffroy Tory, or the François Joseph Islands, but also national representations through mottos, flags or various visual signs, such as the project carried out at the Kiscelli Museum in Budapest.  In 2020, he is the curator of the exhibition Eastern Sugar at La Box, ENSA Bourges.

A founding member since 2004 with Jean-Baptiste Naudy of the Société Réaliste cooperative, his personal work has been presented in various exhibitions since 2014. The work of Société Réaliste has been presented on the occasion of several monographic exhibitions between 2004 and 2014: at the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume (2011), at the Ludwig Museum (Budapest, 2012), at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest (2012), at P exclamation, New York (2013), at the Salon de Vortex (Athens, 2013) and at Akbank Sanat (Istanbul, 2011) .

They have also participated to the biennials of Istanbul (2009), Helsinki (2014), Lyon (2009), Shanghai (2012) and have been exhibited in many institutions abroad.
