Since the 1990s, Jim Shaw has been drawing the object of his nighttime dreams in the Dream Drawings series that eventually led to the creation of works entitled Dreams Objects. Heterogeneous, this series is a stylistic echo to the work of other artists, as well as to different pieces of furniture, or various objects.

In 2007, the artist dreamed of a plexiglass box in which all these works in miniature version were sealed. Atop the pile of objects was a small sculpture of the Great Whore of Babylon in flamboyant red.

When he began to conceive this piece, by creating hundreds of miniatures, he asked Sachiyo Yoshimoto to curate a retrospective exhibition of these works produced between 1995 and 2007. Staged in a scale model, the exhibition presented all these objects before they were assembled in the work at the origin of the project. The Dream Object Book is the only testimony of this exhibition. The first section includes several views of the exhibition taken with an endoscopic camera, and the second section includes the catalogue raisonné of the works reproduced in it.
