Stanley Brouwn

Stanley Brown was born in 1935 at Paramaribo in Suriname. He died in 2017 in Amsterdam.
He is one of the most influential figures of Conceptual Art. Book publishing is an important part of his work since the seventies. His works deal with distances, measuring spaces between points, persons and places. His practice examines the never-ending relation between body and space. He creates new contexts for movement as he evaluates distances according to his own units of measure, such as the Brouwn cubit, the Brouwn foot, or the Brouwn step. He manages to create from his body a non-normative unit of measurement.
