John Miller

John Miller was born in 1954 in Cleveland. He lives and works in New York. John Miller is an artist, critic, and musician whose work has been exhibited in major museums and collections worldwide. He has both utilized and undermined the rigid strategies of conceptual art since the early 1980s. Miller has produced a diverse body of work that, in addition to figuration, addresses language, valuation, social hierarchy and abjection. His work investigates the exchanges between art, the everyday life and the absorption of each into the other. His writings often address the role of aesthetics in culture. In addition to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and filmmaking, Miller is a regular contributor to art journals and magazines, teaches at Barnard College, and plays in the artist band The Cornichons. At last, editions and artist books occupy an important piece of his work.
