Christian Marclay

Christian Marclay was born in 1955 in California. He lives and works between New York and London. His work explores and associates sound, photographs, and films. He uses musical instruments, turntables and vinyls as tools to create his own "theater of sound" inspired by that of Marcel Duchamp. Questioning the notion of "collage" in various media, he created in 2010 The Clock, a work consisting of thousands of film or television sequences related to time. This is actually a clock. Each shot of the film (a watch, an alarm or a dialogue) gives an indication of the time, which is itself synchronized with the real time during the projection of the work. In other words, when a clock or an alarm clock indicates 9:23 in the movie, it is also 9:23 at the viewer's watch.
